Privacy Policy
Haggie is a small app for the Mac, made by Electric Sporran Ltd. This policy explains what Haggie does with information about you. The short answer is: nothing leaves your Mac.
The short version
- Haggie never connects to the internet. It has no permission to.
- It has no account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- It contains no code from other companies.
- What it remembers, it keeps on your Mac, and you can wipe it at any time.
- We never see what Haggie sees, and we can't.
Who we are
Electric Sporran Ltd is the data controller for this policy. We are registered in Scotland, company number SC886423. Our registered office is Office 397, Unit LGE, 18 Young Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4JB.
You can reach us about privacy at support@electricsporran.com.
What Haggie keeps on your Mac
Haggie saves a small file so that your Haggie is still there tomorrow: how it is growing, how it is feeling, what it has found, and the choices you made in Settings. This file lives inside Haggie's own private folder on your Mac (~/Library/Containers/com.electricsporran.Haggie). It is never sent anywhere.
To wipe it, choose Reset and get a new egg in Haggie's Settings. Deleting the app and that folder removes everything.
If you back up your Mac (with Time Machine or iCloud, for example), the file is backed up along with everything else, under your control.
What Haggie notices, but never keeps
To know when to peek out, when to stay hidden and when to keep quiet, Haggie checks a few things about your Mac as they happen:
- Camera: whether a camera is in use by any app, so that Haggie can join in. Haggie never turns a camera on, and never sees or records anything. It holds the camera permission only because macOS won't otherwise say whether a camera is on, which is why the camera is listed against it.
- Microphone: whether any app is using a microphone, so that Haggie keeps quiet during calls. Haggie never listens.
- Your pointer: where it is near the notch, so that Haggie can react when you come close.
- Your screen: whether an app is full screen, whether the screen is locked, and how long since you last used the keyboard or mouse.
- Your Mac's load and the time of day: so that Haggie can sleep at night and stay out of the way when your Mac is busy.
All of this is used in the moment and then forgotten. None of it is recorded, saved or sent.
Files you feed to Haggie
When you drop a file onto the notch, Haggie moves it to the Bin (the Trash on some Macs), using macOS's own Bin. You can undo it straight away, or put it back from the Bin later. Haggie never deletes anything for good.
Haggie never opens, reads, copies or uploads a file you drop. It looks only at the kind of file (from the end of its name, such as .pdf), how big it is, and how many things are in a folder, to decide how it tastes.
Logs
Like most Mac apps, Haggie writes notes to macOS's own system log on your Mac, to help with problems. These notes leave out file names and the names of other apps. They stay on your Mac unless you choose to share them, for example with us when you ask for help.
Apple
You get Haggie from the Mac App Store. Apple handles buying, downloading and updates under its own privacy policy, at apple.com/legal/privacy. We are not told who you are.
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your Mac's settings, Apple may send us crash reports and usage figures. Apple strips them of anything that identifies you before we see them. You can turn this off at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.
If you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to answer you. We do this because it is in your interest and ours that we can help you (the legal basis is "legitimate interests"). We don't add you to any mailing list, and we don't share your email with anyone.
We keep support emails for up to a year after your question is settled, so that we can help if the same problem comes back, and then we delete them. Ask us to delete them sooner and we will.
Children
Haggie collects no information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how we use it. Because Haggie sends us nothing, the only information we might hold about you is anything you have emailed us. To ask about it, email support@electricsporran.com. There is no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk. We'd be glad of the chance to put it right first.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the date at the top. If a future version of Haggie ever needs to work differently with your information, we will say so here before that version is released.
